North Thin Ply Technology Founders

NTPT™ founders start to develop Thin Ply Technology®, initially applicable for the manufacture of sails.

Alinghi uses the technology to build the 'black' (carbon) sails for their 2007 America's Cup yachts. North Sails purchases the rights to the technology, and brand it 3Di™.

 

2008

Movement Skis

NTPT™ continues its research into uses of Thin Ply Technology® in the field of rigid composites. Through collaborations, the technology makes its debut in various industry sectors. For example, ultra-thin tapes are engineered into Burton and Movement skis.

Solar Impulse in flight

NTPT™ enters the aerospace market, collaborating with Solar Impulse on the first round-the-world, solar powered flight.

Porcher Hybrid 911

NTPT™ starts working with Formula 1's most competitive teams. At first applying light-weight Thin Ply Technology® preforms to body panels, offering unprecedented weight savings and appearance enhancement; and then bringing mechanical performance improvements to structural components.


2013

Americas Cup

The company continues working with America's Cup syndicates, bringing Thin Ply Technology® to the engineering designs of their rigid composite structures, with a focus on the foils.

 

2014

Richard Mille, TPT Black RM35-01 watch

NTPT™ opens its Polish manufacturing facility.

A close collaboration begins with Richard Mille, with the introduction of the TPT® Black RM35-01 watch. Engineers from both companies work together to develop luxurious designs and new materials which also meet an extensive list of performance specifications.
