North Thin Ply Technology (NTPT™) reached the second position in the Outstanding Technical Paper ranking of SAMPE, the Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineers, during the CAMX Conference in Orlando FL, USA in October 2014. NTPT’s submission ‘Thin Ply: From Size-Effect Characterization to Real Life Design’ was highly appreciated by the delegates present at this conference.
Written by Wayne Smith (NTPT’s R&D Manager), Clemens Dransfeld (Institute of Polymer Engineering, FHNW) John Botsis, Joël Cugnoni and Robin Amacher (Lab. of Applied Mechanics and Reliability Analysis, EPFL), the article ‘Thin Ply: From Size-Effect Characterization to Real Life Design’ addresses the lack of knowledge both from an experimental and from an analytical perspective why utilizing ‘thinner plies’ exhibit higher strengths than laminates utilizing ‘thicker plies’.
